L2 Animal Care Assistant Apprenticeship to be reviewed.
The Animal Care and Welfare Assistant (ST0397) apprenticeship was approved for delivery in 2018. The trailblazer group, which is coordinated by Animal Focused’s Vicky Skinner, has committed to reviewing the occupational standard and end point assessment plan to ensure that the apprenticeship is up to date, reflects the requirements of the sector and also that it satisfies current IfATE policy.
This review is supported by the Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education.
Before starting the work the group are reaching out to stakeholders to gather their views and insight. This feedback will be used to inform future changes. The consultation will run from 15/7/23 to 15/9/23.
The current apprenticeship standard has a typical duration of 12 months and includes core content that every apprentice is required to complete. Each apprentice is also required to complete content relevant to one of the following options: Animal Interaction and Handling, Rehoming; Movement and Transportation; Operational/Reception Duties; Breeding; Working Dog Handler; Wildlife Rehabilitation, Veterinary Care Support and the group are keen to understand the demands and suitability of the optional content.
